One more box, then lunch

Ah...a rare moment of gratification!  I asked the girls if they were ready to stop and have lunch, and Lucy (!!) of all people said "Let's do one more box and then do lunch."  If that's not a vote of approval, I don't know what is.

I always feel stressed and behind until Thursdays come along when I relax and enjoy how much time we have together.  We do so many outside things and sometimes it feels just right but lately, with all of David's travel and all of our busy, fun, fall activities, it feels like too much.  But today, we stayed home all day and focused on school and just being kids.

We had a rare visitor to SSAG today!  Daddy flew in yesterday and out this morning, so he stopped in for a quick visit (and insisted on taking a picture).

Zoe read a book to him and showed him her journal and Lucy counted to 100 by 10's.
Daddy was very impressed at the academic rigor of the Academy.

Today, we worked on putting things in order.  Lucy enjoyed it until she got bored.
That's the way it goes.

Lucy and I played with the marbles until Zoe finished.
Not sure what the goal of this activity is, but boy does she love it.
There is a very complex set of rules and points that somehow always fall in Lucy's favor.

I found this set of super easy readers at our teacher store.
They have given us a fresh start and big boost of confidence!
She is doing really well and is so proud of herself.

While Zoe drew and wrote in her journal, Lucy made all the letters she could think of.

We are starting to learn about water.  Today, we did a simple experiment with ice.

While we were waiting to see what happened, we had a little water exploration.
Needless to say, this was a hit!

After a quick uniform change (with the addition of fur to ward off the chill), we observed what had happened.

Even though it's not proper science protocol, we decided it would be safe to use all of our senses to make sure that it was in fact, water.

We packed lunches in our lunchboxes and the girls had a picnic on the front porch (they came in for magnifying glasses to see a big bug that crawled up to their food).

Then, they gathered bike, scooter, boas, clocks, quilts, magnifying glasses, rock jar, a snack of 3 candy corns each, and went exploring for butterflies.
This is how far they made it before they decided it was snack time.
